September 2016 Update: Five spots left, and counting

Our new 40-unit housing cooperative on Bright Street will open by the end of the month. Members will enjoy new buildings, raised-bed gardens, covered parking, and a vibrant community in a great location! Bright Street is in walking distance to downtown and close to bus lines, the Integrated Arts Academy, the businesses on North Winooski Avenue, and the Intervale recreation trail.

What is a housing cooperative?

In a housing co-op “the members are the landlord.” The members run the co-op together, making the kinds of decisions a landlord would in a rental. 

Financially a co-op is like renting, but the control and responsibility lead to an ‘ownership attitude’ without the financial commitment of buying a home.

Cooperative housing is not for everyone. It is ideal for people with the desire and skills to work with their neighbors and help create a stable community.

What apartments are still open?

a) 2BR apartments, 966 sf, $1,042/mo (heat included). Income requirements: A gross household income of at least $25,008/yr that does not exceed 60% of the area median.*

b) 2BR apartments, 966 sf, $862/month (heat included).
Income requirements: A gross household income of at least $20,688/yr that does not exceed 50% of the area median.*

c) 1BR apartments, 750 sf, $875/month (heat included).
Income requirements: A gross household income of at least $20,600/yr that does not exceed 60% of the area median.*

d) A 1BR apartment, 750 sf, $1,025/month (heat included).
Income requirements: A gross household income of at least $24,600/yr. This "market-rate" unit has no income limit.

For a one-person household:
- gross income up to $29,400/year puts you at up to 50% of a.m.i.
- gross income up to $35,280/year puts you at up to 60% of a.m.i.

For a two-person household (including children):
- gross income up to $33,600/year puts you at up to 50% of a.m.i.
- gross income up to $40,320/year puts you at up to 60% of a.m.i.

For a three-person household (including children):
- gross income up to $37,800/year puts you at up to 50% of a.m.i.
- gross income up to $45,360/year puts you at up to 60% of a.m.i.

For a four-person household (including children):
- gross income up to $42,000/year puts you at up to 50% of a.m.i.
- gross income up to $50,400/year puts you at up to 60% of a.m.i.
