Buying a Housing Trust Home
There are no buyer-driven grants currently available.
You don’t need a lot of money or a high-paying job to buy one of our homes, but you do need income, good credit, and reasonable debts. You can rebuild your credit and reduce your debt through our counseling program. The Champlain Housing Trust will work with you every step of the way to help prepare you for buying a home of your own.
To qualify for buying a home through the Champlain Housing Trust, you need to:
- Become a customer of the HomeOwnership Center by attending a orientation
- Complete our homebuyer course
- Attend an informational meeting on buying through the Housing Trust
- Submit a CHT Income Verification Application (please review the "Required Documentation Checklist" carefully before submitting your application. Failure to submit ALL pertinent documentation will result in processing delays.)
- Submit a copy of a pre-approval letter from a lender
Champlain Housing Trust HomeOwnership Center customers who want to purchase a home in Chittenden, Franklin, or Grand Isle counties may qualify to purchase one of our homes and receive a grant for down payment assistance. Our grant program is made possible by the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board, which provides approximately $1 million annually statewide to assist Vermonters make their home buying dreams come true.
