Attend one of our informational HopeBuilders breakfasts to learn more about the Champlain Housing Trust and the affordable housing work we do in northwestern Vermont.
HomeBuyer Education (HBE) can help make sense of the complicated home buying process. Our HBE workshop provides a comprehensive overview of the process from A-to-Z. One-on-one counseling with a HomeOwnership Counselor will help you understand and prepare for the responsibilities of owning a home.
Recent studies indicate that people who received pre-purchase education are far less likely to be in trouble with their mortgages and even less likely to face foreclosure.
HomeBuyer Education Workshops
The Homebuyer Education Workshops happen at least once each month and are offered in both Burlington and St Albans. We have 2 different formats; an all-day (7 ½ hours in one day) or a split day (two days of 3 ½ hours each day). If you chose the split session option you must attend both sessions. Pre-registration is required and there is a $99 fee, which covers up to 2 people who are purchasing together. The fee covers the workshop, workshop materials, one-on-one counseling, tri-merge credit report, annual CHT membership, access to financial assistance, grants, special lender programs and so much more.

HOMEBUYER EDUCATION ON-LINE
We also offer an on-line Homebuyer Education class through eHomeAmerica. It is a 6-hour course plus a one-on-one counseling appointment and the cost is $99. You may sign-up here www.ehomeamerica.org
Sessions with a HomeOwnership Counselor happen after you attend the workshop. Counseling can help you understand and prepare for the responsibilities of owning a home and focuses specifically on your situation. The counseling session can address home buying obstacles with an action plan as well as identify resources available to you.
Upon completion of the workshop and counseling session you will receive a homebuyer education completion certificate that meets the education requirements for FHA, VHFA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, local and state housing authorities, NeighborWorks® America, USDA Rural Development and many local portfolio loan products.
