Step 1: Complete HomeBuyer Education Workshop and Counseling

Step 2: Attend Shared Equity Informational Meeting
To fully understand the benefits and requirements of our Shared Equity Program this FREE 1 hour meeting is required for anyone considering purchasing a home through our program. For class schedule visit our website: Click here for class schedule.

Step 3: Complete the Pre-Application
To be eligible to purchase a home through the Shared Equity Program there are some minimum requirements. This pre-application form will help determine if you are ready to complete the full application for the program. Click here to fill out the Pre-Application

Step 4: Complete Full Application
If you meet the basic requirements of the pre-application, you will be sent a link to submit your official application online. This application provides us with the necessary information to assess your eligibility for our Shared Equity Program. We require many documents to verify your income and assets to complete your application. You’ll receive a list of these when you submit the full application.

Step 5: Meet with a CHT Approved Lender
To finalize your eligibility for the Shared Equity Program, you'll need to obtain a pre-approval letter from a lender that works with Champlain Housing Trust. Click here to see our Lender List.

Step 6: Enter Buyer Selections for Homes
Once your full application is complete and CHT has let you know that you qualify for the program, you’ll be able to enter into the Buyer Selection for homes that you like and that are affordable to you based on CHT’s Financing Policy. More information about the Buyer Selection is below.
How to Enter a Buyer Selection for a Home:
When a home first comes on the market there is a deadline for applicants to apply for the home. Applicants that have completed the above steps by the deadline will be included in the buyer selection for the property. CHT chooses from these buyers using a points system. You can download the selection criteria below.
To be included in the buyer selection, you must complete the following by the deadline:
1.) Must have attended a HomeBuyer Education Workshop and completed their counseling session BEFORE the home started marketing.
2.) Must have attended a Shared Equity Informational Meeting within the last year.
3.) Submit a complete full application for the Shared Equity Program and meet the income and asset eligibility requirements.
4.) Submit a pre-approval for the home from a lender that works with CHT.
5.) Submit your credit report from a third-party so that CHT is able to verify your monthly debt.
6.) Must meet the allowed affordability ratios for the program per CHT’s Financing Policy.
