Homebuyer Education

HomeBuyer Education can help make sense of the complicated process of buying a home. Our HomeBuyer Education Completion Certificate requires two parts:

PART I:
A 7.5 hour homebuyer education workshop

PART II:
An individual counseling session

Part I: HomeBuyer Education Workshops

Our workshops provide a comprehensive overview of the home buying process as well as prepare you for the responsibilities of owning a home. CHT normally offers both in-person workshops as well as an online workshop through eHome America.

Both workshop options require pre-registration and a $99 fee for up to 2 people, who are purchasing together. The fee covers the workshop, workshop materials, one-on-one counseling, credit report access, annual CHT membership, and information about financial assistance, grants, special lender programs and so much more.

HOMEBUYER EDUCATION ON-LINE

eHome America is a user-friendly, self-paced program that can be accessed from anywhere and is completed online.  It covers the entire home buying process, including topics such as credit, getting a mortgage, defining the costs incurred when purchasing, and introducing the various professionals involved in buying a home.

You may sign-up here www.ehomeamerica.org to register for your eHome America online workshop.

HOMEBUYER EDUCATION IN-PERSON

Due to COVID restrictions, we are currently unable to provide in-person workshops and counseling sessions.  We plan to offer in-person options once it is safe to do so.

Historically, we have offered our in-person workshops monthly. These dynamic and interactive workshops cover a wide variety of topics and include information about Vermont specific programs and opportunities.  They include presentations from Home Education staff as well as a Lender, Realtor, Attorney and Home Inspector.  It’s the optimal option for a first-time homebuyer.

Part II: Individual Counseling Session

Due to COVID restrictions, all counseling services are currently provided virtually through Zoom.

After completing the workshop, you will attend an individual counseling session, which will focus on your specific situation.  We can address specific home buying challenges with a concrete plan of action and help identify resources that may be available to you.

Once you have completed the workshop, you will be able to set up a counseling session by contacting our education department at [email protected].

Homebuyer Education Completion Certificate

Upon completion of the workshop and counseling session you will receive a Homebuyer Education Completion Certificate that meets the education requirements for FHA, VHFA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, local and state housing authorities, NeighborWorks® America, USDA Rural Development and many local portfolio loan products.
