Are you behind on your rent or mortgage?
It’s been a tough year for many who have been affected directly and indirectly by COVID-19. We know that many Vermonters continue to struggle with housing payments and housing related expenses, and we’re here to help.
We know it can be stressful, frustrating and confusing trying to figure out what to do. There are programs that can help if you are behind on paying your bills, but it can be difficult to navigate the system.
The Vermont HomeOwnership Centers (HOCs) across the state are local, non-profit, HUD certified counseling agencies and there is a Housing Retention Counselor (HRC) at each of these organizations. These counselors are dedicated to connecting Vermonters with the right resource, even if that resource is just information. CHT counselors can help renters and homeowners create a plan of action to stabilize their housing, access financial assistance (when applicable), understand your rights as a tenant or owner, as well as discuss all your options.
