As the calendar moves to November, it’s time to think about the upcoming winter holiday season. As fun as the holidays may be, it can be especially stressful for those on a budget. Below is a collection of resources and organizations that are available to help individuals and families celebrate the holiday season regardless of their means.
Toys for children:
Toys for Kids of Vermont:
Sign-ups: Applications for Christmas toy assistance are accepted in the fall. While based
in Montpelier, Toys for Kids of Vermont serves the entire state and distributes through local

The Salvation Army:
The Angel Tree Program helps provide gifts for children who might not otherwise receive
them. Sign-ups: Families can contact their local salvation Army to register for Christmas
gift assistance.
Lund:
Joy Drive: Holiday Gift Campaign provides gifts to families they serve. Sign-ups: Families
enrolled in Lund services are eligible for this program. Community members can support
this campaign by donating. Contact Lund for more information at 802-864-7467. Lund is
located at 76 Glen Road in Burlington.
Holiday Meals and Grocery Assistance:
Vermont 211:
This is the best starting point to find programs in your area. You can search their online
directory for “Christmas Meals and Christmas Baskets”. You can search for resources like
holiday gifts, meals, and volunteer opportunities.

Feeding Chittenden Champlain Valley:
Feeding Chittenden Champlain Valley is a program of CVOEO that provides food assistance in Chittenden
County. Food shelves often offer holiday food boxes. You can use the Vermont foodbank
website to find your local food shelf and inquire about holiday boxes.

Multi-service organizations:
Joint Urban Ministry Project (JUMP):
JUMP offers a variety of services to economically disadvantaged residents of Burlington,
including referrals for the holidays. Sign up by contacting JUMP on their holiday services or
referrals to other programs. JUMP is located at 38 South Winooski Avenue in Burlington.

Lamoille Family Center:
“Holiday Project” for Toy and Clothing Assistance, and an “Adopt a Family” project.
Registration is required for the holiday project. Parents can register to receive toys and

Milton Family Community Center:
Families can sign up to receive presents at the center on Present Pick Up Day
United Way Programs:
A United Way of Northwest Vermont program provides food and gifts for children in
Franklin and Grand Isle Counties. “Christmas Angels”, “Operation Happiness”, and “Kids
in Coats”, are a few of the programs they offer. Families typically register for these
programs by contacting their local United Way.
Spectrum Youth and family services:
This organization provides support for young people and has volunteer opportunities for
meal contributions. Locations: 31 Elmwood Ave, Burlington and 223 Lake St, St. Albans.
Check with local religious organizations and community centers or contact the
national salvation army or Toys for Tots to inquire about other local programs for the holidays.
