Monte Recognized for Excellence, Commitment to Community

For the second time, VermontBiz has recognized Champlain Housing Trust CEO Michael Monte as one of the 91 Influencers of the year. The honor highlights influencers’ dedication, innovation and impact within their field and community. Readers were asked to nominate influential business people they knew and VermontBiz editorial staff chose the top 91 for 2026. The number of people selected was inspired by the year Vermont became the 14th state – 1791 – and includes people from various sectors throughout the state including agriculture and farming, entertainment, health care and non profits.

“Being chosen as a VermontBiz 91 Influencer signifies more than just professional achievement, it represents a deeper commitment to excellence, community, and positive change. Their work has not only resonated within their industry but has also contributed to shaping Vermont’s business landscape in meaningful and lasting ways,” says Vermont Biz Publisher and Art Director Katie Kittel. “This accolade reflects their hard work, vision, and the respect they’ve earned from peers and colleagues alike.”

The announcement includes bios of the influencers and answers to personal questions. Here is what Michael had to say:

Best advice for your younger self: Take a deep breath, stretch, and be present.

Toughest challenge: The last year or two has been very difficult for so many people, with policy challenges occurring at so many levels.

Hidden talent: If they are hidden, how would I know what they are?

Congratulations to Michael and the other 90 influencers selected!
